USA & Cuba Relations update:
Commercial flights restored
On Tuesday, Feb. 16, the United States and Cuba signed a deal to reopen commercial flight travel between the two countries. The deal immediately allows US agents to book travel on over 100 flights to Cuba, a previously banned transaction. Travelers must travel to the island under one of the approved authorizations which do not yet include tourism.
“Today is a historic day in the relationship between Cuba and the U.S.,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox said after he and Transportation Minister Adel Yzquierdo Rodriguez signed the deal in a ceremony at Havana’s Hotel Nacional. “It represents a critically important milestone in the U.S. effort to engage with Cuba.” (Quoted on ABCnews.com)
Festival del Habano XVIII
Ralph L. Gazitua, WTDC President & CEO, will be traveling to Havana March 3-5 to attend XVIII Festival del Habano. This is Mr. Gazitua’s 6th time traveling to Cuba since announcements were made restoring diplomatic relations with the United States. The Habanos Festival is the island’s foremost tradeshow for the cigar tobacco industry. Popular themes this year are Cohiba’s 50th anniversary celebration and 2016 Limited Edition cigars from Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta.
